Higgins girls claim first basketball district title
The Higgins girls basketball team made history Monday night, winning the first district championship in program history, downing Academy of Our Lady 35-30 at AOL in a battle of unbeaten teams in the league.
The win was the ninth straight for the Hurricanes.
Junior guard Keiondra Williams led the way for Higgins with 16 points.
“This was a team victory that highlighted the true character and discipline of our young ladies,” Higgins coach Bryant Holmes said.
Higgins (19-4, 4-0) is 18th in the Non-Select Division I power ratings ahead of playoff pairings.
