Tech sets program homer record, blasts New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Multiple home runs carry Louisiana Tech over New Mexico State on Friday night.

Louisiana Tech (35-13, 12-4 CUSA) defeated New Mexico State (21-24, 7-12 CUSA) 18-4 after Tech batted in seven home runs in game one, which tied the program record. For the first time this season, Tech had two players hit multiple home runs in a game, while it is the second time Cole McConnell has had multiple home runs in a game.

With the offense going early, Tech never looked back after 14 runs in the first three innings. Dalton Davis (2-for-4, 2 RBI, HR, BB) and Cole McConnell (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 HR, BB) started the game with back-to-back home runs. Next, Adarius Myers (2-for-5, RBI, 2B, HR) batted in a home run, which led to Tech’s six runs in the second inning. Later in the third inning, Will Safford (2-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 BB, HR) and Jorge Corona (2-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 HR) picked up homers, helping Tech to jump to a 14-0 lead. Eventually, New Mexico State got on the board following a home run from Titus Dimitru in the bottom of the fourth inning. Later in the game, Corona and McConnell knocked in their second home runs of the day, putting Tech at 18-4 after New Mexico State knocked in two more home runs on the day as well. Tech pitcher Reed Smith (6-3) earned his sixth win this season after six innings of work, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven batters and walking one.

Louisiana Tech looks to take a series against New Mexico State on Saturday. The first pitch for Saturday’s game will be at 5 PM CT and televised on ESPN+.
