Softball: Northshore handles Hammond, St. Charles Catholic rolls over Springfield

Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, April 9

In District 6-5A, Northshore handled Hammond 11-3 to clinch its third straight district championship.

Reese Jobert led the attack for the Lady Panthers with a pair of home runs while Maddy Silva homered as well.

Ninth in the most recent LHSAA Class 5A power rankings, Northshore (19-6, 11-1) has completed district play. The Lady Panthers will host Dominican this morning at 11 a.m.

Hammond (5-16, 0-12) will host Springfield Monday at 3:30 p.m.

St. Charles Catholic scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to finish off Springfield 11-1 Friday at LaPlace in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

The Lady Comets scored twice in the first and second innings and once in the third and fourth innings each to lead 6-0. After the Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fifth, St. Charles Catholic finished it with the outburst in the bottom of the sixth.

Adrienne Arnett had four hits while Aliyah Manson had three hits for the Lady Comets. Madison Hebert drove in four runs while Rylee San Andres and Kamryn Cancienne each drove in three runs.

Cancienne went the distance on the mound, allowing just a run on three hits with five strikeouts.

St. Charles Catholic (23-4) will host Covington Tuesday at 4 p.m. while Springfield (12-15) will play at Hammond Monday at 3:30 p.m.
