Softball: Northshore, Destrehan, St. James, Thomas Jefferson post wins Tuesday

Area Prep Softball Report for Wednesday, March 20

Northshore scored an impressive 8-2 victory Tuesday over Ponchatoula in a District 6-5A contest in Slidell.

Freshman Nikki Vaughn pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs on five hits. Vaughn struck out five and helped her own cause with a pair of hits. Ella Sanchez had two hits, including a triple and single and drove in two runs and she stole a base. Anna Doll was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Christina Curtis had three hits and scored twice for the Greenies. Sydni Stanga took the loss.

The win was the third straight for Northshore.

The Panthers (10-8, 1-1) return to district play Thursday at Fontainebleau at 4 p.m.

The Greenies (15-6, 1-1) saw their three-game win streak end. Ponchatoula is back in district play today at home against Mandeville at 3:30 p.m.

In District 7-5A , Destrehan handled East St. John 16-1 in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule at Destrehan.

Destrehan scored three runs in the top of the first inning, added eight runs in the second and finished it with eight runs in the third inning. East St. John scored its run in the top of the third inning.

Kamryn Barrilleaux drove in two runs while Leanna Vicknair, Alayna Vicknair, Rylie Staton, Makayla Thomas and Callie Bordelon each drove in a run for Destrehan.

Chloe Burford, Jolie Lozano and Londyn Lee each pitched an inning for Destrehan in the win.

Destrehan (13-5, 2-0) will play at rival Hahnville Thursday at 4 p.m. while East St. John (2-7, 0-4) will play today at South Lafourche at 5 p.m.

St. James ripped Patterson 16-0 in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule in District 8-3A play.

The Wildcats scored nine runs in the top of the second inning, added five runs in the third and finished with two runs in the fourth inning.

Mhallayah Picou had two hits, including a double and three RBI, Sa’Vya Sutherland contributed three hits and two RBI while Ja’Rah Bright and Colbie Mitchell each had two hits and two RBI for St. James.

Eighth-grader Faith Reulet picked up the win, going the distance, allowing just three hits. Reulet walked two and struck out 10.

St. James (8-10, 3-1) will host Lutcher on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Lumberjacks (1-8, 0-3) returns to district play Thursday at 4 p.m. at home against E.D. White Catholic.

Thomas Jefferson scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Fisher 4-3 in a District 9-2A contest on the West Bank.

Caroline Burke had two hits, including a home run for Thomas Jefferson. Addison Cuccia added two hits and an RBI while Kalli Cannon and Celeste Ward each had a hit and an RBI. Carson Heigle pitched a complete game to get the win, allowing three runs while scattering 10 hits. Heigle walked one and struck out three.

Gabby St. Ann went the distance for Fisher, allowing just two earned runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Rilee Smith drove in a run for the Gators.

The Jaguars (7-3-1, 2-0) have won four straight games and return to district play Thursday at 4 p.m. at Houma Christian.

The Gators (9-4, 1-1) will play McGehee today at 4 p.m.
