Softball: Mount Carmel, Haynes, St. James win Tuesday

Area Prep Softball Schedule for Wednesday, April 3

In prep softball action, Mount Carmel Academy went on the road Tuesday and handled Hahnville 13-3 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Mount Carmel took a 4-1 lead after two innings and held a narrow 4-3 lead after three innings before the Cubs erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning.

Brianna Keller homered and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Emerson Tregre took the loss.

Mount Carmel (14-5) has won four straight games. The Cubs, third in the Select Division I power ratings, will host Northshore Monday at 5 p.m.

Hahnville (17-12), currently 18th in the Non-Select Division I power ratings, will host Ponchatoula today at 4 p.m. in its regular season finale.

Haynes Academy blitzed Destrehan 14-1 at Destrehan.

It was a 2-1 game into the fifth inning, when Haynes batted around and scored 12 runs.

Hailey Peterson (15-6) picked up the win, allowing no earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Peterson had two hits, including a home run and drove in three runs. Rylan Barras had a double and two RBI, Ella Lewis had two hits and two RBI and Ava Palumbo had two hits and an RBI for the Yellow Jackets.

Makayla Thomas had two hits, including a triple with an RBI to pace Destrehan. Jolie Lozano took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in four innings with two strikeouts.

Haynes (16-6), seventh in the Select Division II power ratings, returns to action Thursday at Lakeshore at 4:30 p.m.

The Wildcats (19-7), 13th in the Non-Select Division I power ratings, saw their four-game win streak end. Destrehan will host Covenant Christian Saturday.

St. James defeated Parkview Baptist 13-6 at home.

The Wildcats took a 7-0 lead after two innings and it was 9-2 after three innings. St. James scored two runs in the fourth inning to make it 11-2 and it was 13-4 after six innings.

Eighth-grader Colbie Mitchell had three hits and three RBI to lead a 15-hit attack for St. James. Mhallayah Picou added two hits and three RBI. Freshman Tierney Zenon had two hits and three RBI. Ja’Rah Bright added a hit and two RBI, Ella Folse had two hits and an RBI and Shiya Steib had a hit and an RBI. Faith Reulet went the distance to get the win, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

St. James (11-12) has won three straight games and will play at Thibodaux Thursday at 5 p.m.

Parkview Baptist (11-8) plays at Assumption Thursday at 4 p.m.
