Baseball: Several area teams opt of of Trey Altick Tournament due to field conditions

Several area teams declined to make the trip to northwest Louisiana to participate in the annual Trey Altick Tournament due to wet field conditions due to persistent rain in the Monroe area throughout the week while other area teams have decided to make the trip. Those opting to play games in south Louisiana instead include Archbishop Rummel, Brusly, Central, Catholic of Pointe Coupee, East Ascension, East St. John, Karr, Loranger, Madison Prep, Newman, University Lab and Walker. To say that it will be hard to beat Brother Martin in the Division I competition at the LHSAA state wrestling tournament this Friday and Saturday at CenturyLink Center in Bossier City would be an understatement. Of their wrestlers, the Crusaders have four top-seeds and all 14 are among the top six seeds in their respective weight classes. Traditional power Catholic High of Baton Rouge continued its mastery of its area brethren, winning the Baton Rouge City Wrestling Championship Saturday at home. The Bears edged East Ascension in a close finish by 11.5 points with St. Amant finishing third. Catholic claimed five individual titles, including Luke Romano (113), Peter Kelly (120), Martin Helouin (126), Kade Fouts (138) and Jacob Fereday (170). Nicholls signs seven Louisianans in early signing period

THIBODAUX, La. – College football featured its first early signing period Wednesday (Dec. 20) and Nicholls State University football head coach Tim Rebowe inked seven Louisiana products to kick off the 2018 signing class.
