One day before the deadline to declare the intent to play up in classification, Holy Cross announced Tuesday it will remain in the Catholic League for the next two seasons.

“Our recent district titles in basketball and baseball demonstrate our competitiveness in District 9-5A,” the school said in an email to supporters. “As a school, we are program driven and our commitment to the Catholic League is evidence we are here to compete.

“The … sports of Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track will continue to compete in District 9-5A. Just as our teachers are committed to challenging our young men in the classroom, our athletic programs will continue to challenge our young men on their field of play.”

Holy Cross’ enrollment is at the Class 4A level, but schools have the option to “play up” in classification.

Holy Cross’ announcement comes six days after Archbishop Shaw said it will not play up and remain in 4A. The other Catholic League schools who have a 4A-level enrollment, St. Augustine and Archbishop Rummel, had already declared their intention to play up prior to the LHSAA”s release of enrollment numbers last week. John Curtis, which has a 2A enrollment, also indicated it would remain in 5A.
