Prep Soccer Playoff Report for Thursday, Feb. 1

The LHSAA prep soccer playoffs got underway Wednesday with nine matches around the state and several more take place this evening.

No. 21 Northlake Christian welcomed No. 21 Lafayette Christian to Covington where a terrific match ensued.

Skylar Vetter scored with 90 seconds left in the second overtime period to lift the Wolverines to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the 12th-seeded Knights in the opening round of the girls Division IV state playoffs.

The Wolverines (9-5-3) advance to take on the winner of No. 5 Episcopal of Acadiana and No. 28 Opelousas Catholic, who play today at 5 p.m.

Also in Division IV, No. 24 Thomas Jefferson went on the road and upset No. 9 Grace Christian 2-1.

The Jaguars (11-6) advance to face the winner of No. 8 Evangel Christian and No. 25 Houma Christian in the regional round.

In Division III, No. 5 seed Archbishop Hannan shut out No. 28 Erath 8-0 at home.

Kaitlyn Brady put on a show, scoring five goals. Maggie Wylie added a pair of goals and Kristin Schneider scored the other goal.

The Hawks (11-7-5) advance to the regional round to take on the winner of No. 12 Ursuline Academy and No. 21 Leesville.

No. 7 Academy of the Sacred Heart also advanced, handling No. 26 West Feliciana 8-0.

The Cardinals (13-3-6) advance to take on the winner of No. 10 South Beauregard and No. 23 St. Martinville in the regional round.
