Basketball: South Plaquemines boys, Northshore girls victorious Wednesday

Area Prep Basketball Playoff Report for Thursday, Feb. 1

South Plaquemines made the trip to New Orleans and edged Cohen 56-50 Wednesday in boys basketball action in District 9-2A.

In a close game throughout, the Hurricanes led 12-10 after one quarter and 27-24 at halftime. It was 39-38 heading to the fourth quarter.

Senior Kameron Stephenson led South Plaquemines with 18 points while junior Deanel McGee scored 10 points.

South Plaquemines (11-16, 2-1) returns to district play next Tuesday, hosting Fisher.

The Green Hornets (9-15, 0-2) return to action this evening at Fisher.

In girls action, Northshore downed Karr 65-53 at home in a non-district contest.

The game was tied 17-17 after one quarter before the Lady Panthers took a 38-27 halftime lead. It was 51-38 heading to the fourth quarter.

Alanna Jackson led four players in double figures for Northshore with 19 points while Cherie Spencer scored 18 points. Kiley Lizana had 11 points and Grace Smith scored 10 points.

Freshman Cass Antoine scored 21 points to lead the Cougars while senior Tori Walker had 18 points.

Northshore (18-12) returns to District 6-5A play Friday at Hammond.

Karr (14-14) heads to Amite Monday.
