Jesuit, St. Charles Catholic earn second seeds in LHSAA Baseball Playoff Brackets

No area teams will be top seeds among the 12 classes of the LHSAA state baseball playoffs beginning Monday.

Jesuit and St. Charles Catholic have earned second seeds in their respective classes.

All non-select first round meetings are single games.

In Class 5A, perennial power Barbe is the top seed. The Buccaneers (32-2) will host No. 32 Denham Springs (12-19) in the opening round. Barbe won the most recent 5A title in 2019 and the Buccaneers have won 10 state titles overall.

West Monroe (21-7) is the second seed. The Rebels play host to No. 31 Natchitoches Central (14-20).

No. 21 Hahnville (20-12) has won four straight and heads to No. 12 Central (20-10).

No. 23 Covington (19-11) will play at No. 10 Dutchtown (23-10).

No. 26 Chalmette (17-10) travels north to No. 7 Benton (26-5) Tuesday at 5 p.m.

No. 27 Destrehan (18-12-1) plays at No. 6 Walker (26-7).

No. 28 Ponchatoula (15-10) makes a long trip to No. 5 Ruston (21-8) Monday at 4 p.m.

No. 29 Northshore (11-17), who played a very challenging schedule, has a tough assignment at No. 4 Sam Houston (25-5).

In Class 4A, Tioga (23-7) earned the top seed and the Indians will host McMain (5-5) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Ward 10 Baseball Complex. Tioga won the most recent 4A state championship in 2019.

North DeSoto (29-4) is seeded second and will host Morgan City (1-21).

Lakeshore earned the fifth seed and the Titans (17-11) host No. 28 Ellender (8-21).

No. 6 Franklinton (22-4) will entertain No. 27 Bolton (7-16).

No. 19 Belle Chasse (14-14) heads west to face No. 14 Carencro (19-15).

No. 20 Karr (15-8) has to go north to No. 13 Minden (16-11).

No. 21 Warren Easton (10-10) heads to bayou country to play No. 12 Assumption (15-14).

No. 22 Pearl River (14-13) will play at No. 11 Rayne (17-13).

No. 25 Salmen (6-21) travels to No. 8 South Lafourche (21-8).

In Class 3A, Sterlington (27-4) is the top seed and will host No. 32 Kenner Discovery (8-12) Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Panthers won the most recent 3A state title in 2019.

South Beauregard (27-4) is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 31 St. Martinville (7-14).

No. 3 Lutcher (22-6) entertains No. 30 Mamou (10-18) Monday at 6 p.m.

No. 26 Jewel Sumner (15-11) will face No. 7 Brusly (12-15) Monday at 6 p.m.

No. 27 St. James (11-16) heads to No. 6 West Feliciana (19-10).

No. 29 Albany (5-20) heads to No. 4 Iota (25-6).

In 2A, Doyle (22-8) is the top seed and will host No. 32 Oakdale (3-24) Monday at 5 p.m. Doyle played in the state championship game in 2019, falling to Kinder.

No. 2 Rosepine (22-5) will entertain No. 31 Pickering (4-17).

No. 6 Springfield (21-9) plays host to No. 27 Avoyelles (11-13) Monday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 7 Fisher (18-3) will be at home to No. 26 Beekman Charter (11-13).

In Class 1A, Oak Grove (16-9) is the top seed and has a first round bye.

Grand Lake (19-2) is the second seed with a bye as well.

Choudrant (28-3) is the top seed in Class B with a first round bye.

Anacoco (14-13) is the second seed, also with a bye.

Mount Hermon (13-9) is the 13th seed and hosts No. 20 Monterey (8-20).

No. 22 Maurepas (4-17) heads to No. 11 Doyline (12-10).

In Class C, Hicks (24-3) is No. 1 with a first round bye.

Simpson (14-7) is No. 2 with a bye as well.

On the select side, all initial meetings are best-of-three matchups.

In Division I, Byrd (23-7) gets the top seed and the Yellow Jackets get a bye into the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of No. 9 St. Augustine (14-16) and No. 8 St. Paul’s (21-8). The Wolves won the last Division I state championship in 2019.

No. 2 Jesuit (27-6) has a bye before facing the winner of No. 7 Archbishop Rummel (17-11) and No. 10 Archbishop Shaw (15-18) in the quarterfinals. Rummel and Shaw split a pair of regular season games while Jesuit swept Rummel and split with Shaw in District 9-5A play. Despite being the home team, Rummel and Shaw will play all three games at Shaw’s Winterscheidt Stadium with Rummel as the home team twice. Game one is Friday at 6 p.m. with game two Saturday with game three to follow, if necessary.

No. 3 John Curtis Christian (18-6) has a bye and will meet the winner of No. 6 Brother Martin (20-10) and No. 11 McKinley (10-21). The Patriots won consecutive Division I state titles in 2017 and 2018. John Curtis swept a pair of district games from the Crusaders. Brother Martin hosts McKinley Friday at 4:30 p.m. with game to follow at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Game three, if needed, would be Saturday at 7 p.m.

No. 5 Holy Cross (22-9) plays host to No. 12 Scotlandville (3-20). Game one is set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with game two Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Tiger Park. Game three, if necessary, would be Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to take on No. 4 Catholic of Baton Rouge (20-13).

In Division II, Parkview Baptist (28-0) is the No. 1 seed and will entertain No. 16 Haynes Academy (13-11) in the regional round.

St. Louis Catholic (13-11) is the second seed and will host No. 15 Patrick Taylor (19-12).

No. 9 Archbishop Hannan (15-10) plays at No. 8 E.D. White Catholic (16-11).

No. 12 Lusher Charter (18-5) heads to No. 5 Teurlings Catholic (16-14).

No. 13 De La Salle (12-13) travels to No. 4 University High (15-14).

In Division III, Notre Dame (23-6) has a bye into the quarterfinals and the Pioneers will get the winner of No. 9 Holy Savior Menard (14-14) at No. 8 Pope John Paul II (15-9).

Red hot St. Charles Catholic (20-9-1) has a bye and in the quarterfinals, the Comets, who have won 10 straight games, will meet the winner of No. 10 Catholic of New Iberia (10-16) and No. 7 Dunham (19-12). The Comets won the 2019 Division II state championship.

No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas (24-6) hosts a familiar opponent in No. 13 Northlake Christian (6-19). The District 10-2A rivals split a pair of games in the regular season.

Newman (21-9) is a dangerous fifth seed and hosts No. 12 Houma Christian (8-12).

In Division IV, Ouachita Christian (21-10) gets the top seed and the Eagles host No. 16 Riverside Academy (8-19). OCS won the most recent Division IV state championship in 2019.

Ascension Catholic (21-7) is No. 2 and will entertain No. 10 St. Martin’s Episcopal (10-17).

No. 10 Country Day (15-5) travels to No. 7 Opelousas Catholic (17-13).

In Division V, Grace Christian (23-8) is No. 1 and will face No. 8 Episcopal of Acadiana (1-17) in the quarterfinals.

No. 2 Claiborne Christian (11-16) entertains No. 7 St. Joseph’s of Plaucheville (8-13).
