Archbishop Rummel vs. John Curtis state baseball semifinal to air Thursday on The Ticket 106.1 FM

The LHSAA Select Division I prep baseball game Thursday afternoon pitting No. 3 seed Archbishop Rummel against No. 2 seed John Curtis Christian will air live on The Ticket 106.1 FM and theticket1061.com.

The pre-game show begins at 1:45 p.m. with Lenny Vangilder of CrescentCitySports.com handling play-by-play duties while former Major League pitcher Kirk Bullinger provides analysis at McMurry Park in Sulphur. First pitch it slated for 2 p.m.

John Curtis Christian (28-7) won back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018 in Division I. The Patriots have won nine state championships overall.

Brad Chaisson leads Curtis at the plate, hitting .351 with seven home runs 33 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Two-way star and two-sport star Dagan Bruno is batting .351 with a home run and 21 RBI and is outstanding on the mound as well, having won the deciding game in the quarterfinal series against Brother Martin. Tyler Mitchell is batting .353 with three home runs and 23 RBI.

Archbishop Rummel (25-8) has won five state championships and played in the title game most recently, finishing second in 2012, 2019 and 2023.

The Raiders are led by LSU commit Mikey Ryan, batting .364 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 20 stolen bases while District 9-5A Most Valuable Player and Loyola commit Ruben Ramirez is hitting .411 with a home run, 17 RBI and 30 stolen bases. Tulane signee Giancarlo Arencibia leads the way on the mound. Arencibia pitched a no-hitter against John Curtis on March 12.

Rummel swept the regular season series, winning 3-0 and 6-1 in district play.

John Curtis defeated Rummel 7-0 in the 2017 Division I semifinals and beat the Raiders in the 2022 Division I quarterfinals two games to one.
