Cole Canatella

Holy Cross senior quarterback Cole Canatella has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Crescent City Sports, NASH ICON 106.1 FM and Friday Night Football Prep Player of the Week for week five of the prep football season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

Canatella completed 18-of-27 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 28 yards and two touchdowns as Holy Cross defeated defending Select Division I state champion John Curtis Christian, 42-41. It was the first win for the Tigers over the Patriots in school history after 11 losses.

Coached by Scott Wattigny, Canatella will be honored at the year-end meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Tuesday, December 12 at The Cannery.

“Cole has been elite since the start of the season,” Holy Cross coach Scott Wattigny said. “He’s done an incredible job and he keeps getting better and better. What’s most impressive is his pocket presence. He makes the big throw and he has made plays with his feet. When he trots out on the field, everyone believes he will get it done. He is calm, cool and assertive.”

The next meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club is Tuesday, October 24 at noon, featuring Allstate Sugar Bowl Executive Director Jeff Hundley and Tulane Athletic Director Troy Dannen, among others.
