Girls Basketball: West St. John, Karr get district wins Friday
Area Girls Prep Basketball Report for Saturday, Jan. 26
In District 8-1A action, two teams battling for a district title hooked up in Metairie and visiting West St. John built a solid first half lead and held off St. Martin’s Episcopal 46-41.
The loss snapped a six-game win streak for St. Martin’s.
Junior Kylie Adams and senior Stevante Hamilton each had 18 points to lead West St. John.
Both teams trail district leading KIPP-B.T. Washington, who is unbeaten in league play thus far.
West St. John (24-7, 3-1) has won eight of its last nine games. The Rams returns to action Wednesday, hosting Cohen at 6:15 pm while the Saints (14-8, 2-1) travel to Houma Christian Tuesday at 6 pm.
In District 9-4A, Karr held off Helen Cox 36-33 at home to remain unbeaten in district play.
Demi Howard hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to provide the margin of victory.
Tatyana Barber led Karr (16-11, 3-0) with 13 points while Maya Phillipa led the Cougars (15-7, 1-2) with 20 points.
Karr returns to action Thursday at KIPP-B.T. Washington at 6 pm while Helen Cox hosts West Jefferson Tuesday at 6 pm.
