East Jefferson continues to make progress under new coach Brian Glover.

The Warriors posted their second win of the season, shutting out Haynes Academy 32-0 Thursday night at Joe Yenni Stadium.

East Jefferson controlled play throughout, leading 21-0 at halftime.

Quarterback Gavin Bester ran for two scores and passed for a score for the Warriors. Henry Lee had a touchdown reception and Dajon Bates ran for a score. Kevin Velasquez kicked a 40-yard field goal and the East Jefferson recorded a safety.

“Our defense was very good and Dorrian Hollins had a big game on both sides of the ball for us,” Glover said. “He caught passes, had a couple of sacks and forced a fumble. Lee was excellent both ways as well and Bester was solid. It is his first year playing quarterback but he is producing big plays every week while learning the position.”

“We are still working to improve,” East Jefferson coach Brian Glover said. “We still need experience, trying to gain game experience, going through the motions of situations to learn football on the fly. We’re excited about the growth we’ve seen from the beginning of the season. We’re starting to figure out spots and who can play where to put guys in the best places to be successful. Haynes is well coached and played hard from start to finish. I like the fight they have and I really appreciate Coach Ben Powell and the job he does.”

The Warriors (2-1) travel to Central next Thursday night.

“We know it’s going to be a well-coached team with talent,” Glover said. “It’s going to be a litmus test to see where we are and now much further we have to progress to be the team we want to be.”
