Wednesday night features the last dual of the season for the No. 2 Brother Martin Crusaders and No. 4 Teurlings Catholic Rebels. Consider it a rubber match.

The schools met twice earlier in the season with the Crusaders winning the first meet, 60-17. The Rebels avenged the loss at the Beast on the Bayou tournament, 33-28.

Brother Martin’s lineup has completely changed since the last two meetings. Several key Crusaders who did not wrestle in the second meeting will be pivotal this time around.

Two names stand out the most – top ranked junior Jacob Elsensohn at 120 lbs. and Gabriel Brewer at 195 lbs. Elsensohn hasn’t wrestled since the beginning of January while Brewer returned last weekend and won in overtime against the Louisiana Classic 6th place winner.

The Rebels have a unique connection with the men of Elysian Fields. Teurlings Catholic head coach Kent Masson graduated from Brother Martin in 1988.

Emotions will be high during the dual. the Rebels and Crusaders are both favorites to win their divisions at state next month.

The Rebels placed higher in the traditional tournament style at the Louisiana Classic, which was the highest for a division II school in years. Teurlings has been tough to beat all year, with wrestlers from top to bottom ranked. A couple of key wrestlers are freshman phenoms Alex Rozas and Braeden Simoneaux.

At 106 lbs., Rozas has put on a show this season during his first year in the starting lineup. The freshman has a record 50 wins and has not struggled once this whole year. At 170 lbs., Simoneaux has compiled an overall record of 51-7 with 37 of those wins decided by pin.

At 138 lbs., Ethan Boudreaux has been the number one ranked wrestler in his weight class nearly all season.

There’s no doubt the Crusaders and Rebels are top tier programs in the state. The two schools will not meet at the state championship but the Wednesday meet will display the top quality wrestling the state can offer.

The dual will start at 6 p.m and will be streamed live for free on Brother Martin’s Crusader Sports Programming Network (CSPN.live).
