McKinney takes second RRAC Player of the Week honor

WACO, Texas – Miya McKinney of Louisiana Christian University was recognized as the RRAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her play over the dates of Jan. 23-29. This is the 11th conference award of the 2022-23 women’s basketball season.

McKinney posted her sixth and seventh consecutive double-double performances in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats. The senior from Ville Platte, La., delivered 17 points and 23 rebounds – the highest total at LCU in three seasons – as the Wildcats ran over LSU Shreveport (La.), 68-41.

She also poured in 24 points and grabbed 15 boards in a 74-66 victory over LSU Alexandria (La.). She made 17-of-34 shots from the field for the week.

The award was the second such honor in as many weeks for McKinney, who is averaging a double-double for the season. She leads the RRAC in field goal percentage (60.5 percent) ranks second in scoring with 16.5 points per game and ranks third in rebounding with 12.4 caroms per contest.

The Wildcats climbed to 8-5 in conference play and 11-9 overall. The ‘Cats host Huston-Tillotson on Thursday at the H.O. West Fieldhouse; tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m
