Baseball: St. Martin’s, Jesuit, Rummel, Holy Cross win on final day of regular season

St. Martin’s reached a milestone Monday, capturing its 20th win of the season with a 4-0 win over Kenner Discovery.

Alex Scheuermann was outstanding on the mound, pitching 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just two hits. Scheuermann walked 4 and struck out four. David Helwig finished up for the Saints.

Helwig and Cooper Wakefield each had two hits and an RBI while Scheuermann had a hit and a sacrifice fly.

Brayden Netterville took the loss for with Swamp Owls, allowing three runs on six hits. Netterville walked three and struck out two, pitching into the sixth inning.

Brennan Deist went one inning giving up a run on three hits. Netterville and Jacob Senat each had a hit for Kenner Discovery.

St. Martin’s (20-7) entered the game 11th in the Select Division IV power rankings with a chance to move up a spot or two.

Kenner Discovery (18-10) was 11th in the Select Division II power rankings.

Jesuit closed its regular season in solid fashion, blanking Archbishop Shaw
8-0 at John Ryan Stadium.

Bryce Pitts pitched four scoreless innings, striking out seven before Jack Ainsworth pitched the final there shutout innings, fanning three Eagles.

Jesuit scored three runs in the third on an RBI by Patrick Berrigan and a two-run single by Gates Barre’.

Hunter Oufnac plated two runs with a triple in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-0.

Barre’ tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a double steal and it was
6-0 before Jackson Stopa tripled home two runs to complete the scoring.

Julyan Clarks had a triple as one of the four hits for Shaw.

Jesuit (25-7) will be the second seed in the upcoming Select Division I playoffs.

Archbishop Shaw (14-18) will be seeded anywhere from seventh through ninth in the Select Division II playoffs.

Archbishop Rummel completed its regular season with an 8-0 win at Slidell.

The Raiders jumped on the Tigers for five runs in the top of the first and added three runs in the top of the seventh.

Shane Hirstius went four scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and three strikeouts to pick up the win. Brady Schmidt pitched two shutout innings and Ryan Claverie finished up with a scoreless frame to complete the scoring.

Gavin Kennedy had a double, single and two RBI while Rhett Centanni had a double and two RBI for the Raiders. Brogan Blum also had two hits and two RBI.

The Raiders (19-14) will finish anywhere from 11th to 13th in the Select Division I power rankings.

Holy Cross blanked De La Salle 5-0 at Tiger Park.

Mason Smith went the distance, allowing just three hits. Smith walked no one and struck out three.

Luca Saltaformaggio had a double, single and an RBI, Chris Sercovich had two hits and an RBI and Ross Klein had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers.

Pierce Brodnax had a hit and an RBI and Blake Chauvin added an RBI for Holy Cross.

The Tigers (14-15-1) were 14th in the Select Division I power rankings entering the contest.

De La Salle (15-11) was 10th in the Select Division II power rankings.
