Baseball: Mandeville blanks Slidell; Fisher defeats Douglass

Area Prep Baseball Report for Saturday, March 27

In District 6-5A, it was a great pitcher’s dual Friday at Mandeville against Slidell.

The Skippers prevailed 2-0.

Freshman Wes Carr had two hits and an RBI while sophomore Nick Schwing drove in a run for the Skippers. Senior Brenton Gant contributed a double.

Freshman Michael Scott picked up the win, allowing just two hits. Scott walked no one and struck out five in a superb performance.

Mandeville (12-10, 3-1) won its fifth straight game. The Skippers travel to Ponchatoula Tuesday at 6:30 in district play.

Slidell (9-13, 0-4) lost its third straight game. The Tigers play at Hammond Tuesday at 6 p.m. in district play.

Make it six straight wins for Fisher.

The Gators swallowed up Douglass 14-5 on the road Friday in a non-district contest.

Fisher scored twice in the top of the first before the Bobcats answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The Gators then blew the game open, scoring three in the second, one run in the third, five in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning to make it 12-1.

Douglass kept the game alive, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 12-4.

Fisher then added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh before the Bobcats closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Matthew Creppel had two hits and two RBI while freshman Logan Rome, senior Trey Usey and junior Delvin Williams each drove in a pair of runs for the Gators. Senior Curt Silver added two hits and an RBI as part of an 11-hit attack.

Senior Landyn Haas went 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Haas allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits. Haas walked two and struck out 10.

Fisher (11-2) will travel to Bonnabel Monday at 4:30 p.m. while the Bobcats (5-2) saw a four-game win streak end and will host Grace King Monday at 3 p.m.
