Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, March 28

St. Charles Catholic is typically outstanding in softball.

That has been the case over an extended period of time.

That is why it was unusual to see the Comets drop seven straight games recently.

It appears that the ship has been righted as the Comets have now won two of three games.

St. Charles Catholic whipped Fisher 14-3 at home Friday in the District 11-3A opener for both teams at LaPlace in a game which ended after 4 ½ innings due to the mercy rule.

The Comets blew the game open early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first and three in the second to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

Fisher answered with three runs in the third, trying to make a game of it, but the Comets put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

St. Charles Catholic had nine hits, led by Blakely Heltz, who had three hits and three RBI and Rylee San Andres, who had two hits and three RBI. Madison Hebert drove in three runs for the Comets and Alyssa Hooge added two hits.

St. Charles Catholic (7-11) will host a good Archbishop Chapelle team today at noon.

The Gators (9-5) saw a five-game win streak end. Fisher will host McGehee Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a district contest.
