Baseball: Chalmette, Higgins, South Plaquemines, Belle Chasse among winners Monday

Area Prep Baseball Report for Tuesday, March 12

Chalmette continued its outstanding season Monday with a 10-0 home win over De La Salle in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule.

The Owls scored single runs in the first and second innings before scoring twice in the bottom of the third to make it 4-0. Chalmette scored two in the fifth and ended it with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Cameron Tipton and Devin Dipascal combined on a no-hitter. Tipton went 3.2 innings, issuing one walk with six strikeouts. Dipascal went 2.1 innings, allowing three walks with a strikeout.

Cole Armstrong had two hits, including a double, with three RBI while Joe Monaghan and Jayden Williams each had two hits and two RBI. Cameron drove in two runs and Marcus Campbell had a hit and an RBI.

Chalmette (10-1) has won nine straight games. The Owls return to action at Kenner Discovery today at 6 p.m.

The Cavaliers (5-3) play at Mandeville Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Higgins handled Thomas Jefferson 15-0.

Logan Laine had two hits and four RBI while Brian Ramos had two hits and three RBI. Dustin LeLeaux had two hits and an RBI. Quincy Brown had a hit and two RBI for the Hurricanes. Brown went the distance to pick up the win, allowing just three hits and struck out nine.

Higgins (7-5) returns to action at West St. John today at 4 p.m. The Jaguars (0-10) will host Salmen Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

South Plaquemines downed Morris Jeff 12-2 at home Monday in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

The Hurricanes scored in each of the first four innings to take a 10-0 lead. The Pelicans scored twice in the top of the fifth but South Plaquemines walked it off with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Evan Ballay led the attack with three hits and four RBI while Rod Parker added two hits and two RBI. Khi Ancar added a pair of hits.

South Plaquemines (2-4) returns to action at The Willow School tonight at 7 p.m.

Morris Jeff (0-4) will entertain Livingston Collegiate next Tuesday.

Also in Plaquemines Parish, Belle Chasse held off Riverdale 9-7.

Each team scored a run in the first inning before Belle Chasse scored three in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Rebels cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the third and Belle Chasse scored a run in the fourth to make it 5-3. Riverdale scored a run in the top of the fifth before Belle Chasse opened up a 9-3 lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Riverdale rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh but fell short.

Jacob Black led the Cardinals with three hits, including two doubles with three RBI, Christian Mouriz had a double and three RBI while Tate Dickinson had two hits, including a double with an RBI. Gavin Rubio had two hits, including a double.

Hudson Faucheux picked up the win, going four innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Faucheux walked two and struck out three.

Michael Ford took the loss for the Rebels. Ford paced the Rebels offense with a hit and two RBI while Gage Dufour had two hits and an RBI.

Belle Chasse (9-3) returns to action Monday at Thibodaux at 5 p.m.

Riverdale (8-2) saw its seven-game win streak end and the Rebels look to bounce back today at John Ehret at 4 p.m.
