Softball: Riverside, Ben Franklin, St. Martin’s win Monday

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, March 12

Riverside Academy came from behind to defeat Chalmette 8-2 at home Monday.

The game was scoreless into the sixth inning when the Owls scored twice in the top of the frame. The Rebels responded with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win.

Corrin Cashio homered and drove in two runs while Layla Price had two hits and two RBI. Courtney Bordelon had a hit and two RBI while Kylie Bordelon had three hits and scored a run. Bordelon picked up the win, going five innings, allowing no runs on two hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Riverside (8-4) will host St. Katharine Drexel today at 4:30 p.m.

Chalmette (8-5) will entertain Albany Thursday at 6 p.m.

Ben Franklin drilled East Jefferson 24-4 in a game shortened by three innings by the mercy rule.

The Falcons scored four runs in the top of the first inning before erupting for 15 runs in the second. The Falcons added five more runs in the third to put the game away. The Warriors scored their two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Ben Franklin blasted four home runs, with one each by Cate Bilbe, Sidney Davis, Alora Jensen and Sade Mehok.

Jensen was tremendous, going 4-for-4, including a triple and nine RBI. Bilbe and Maleah Leal each had two hits and two RBI. Bilbe pitched two innings while Mia Mornay pitched an inning for the Falcons.

Ben Franklin (1-5) returns to action Thursday against McGehee.

The Warriors (0-2) will play at John Ehret March 19.

St. Martin’s Episcopal defeated West St. John 14-4 at home in District 10-1A action in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

The Saints scored three runs in the first inning, eight in the second two in the third and one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end it. The Rams scored a run in the second and three runs in the fourth inning.

Jessie Gaspard had three hits and three RBI to pace St. Martin’s while Emerson Arensman had a hit and two RBI. Gianna Mandella picked up the win, going five innings, allowing four runs on two hits with seven walks and six strikeouts.

Both teams return to district play today.

St. Martin’s (2-4) will play at Crescent City Christian at 4 p.m. while the Rams (5-1) host Varnado at 4 p.m.
