Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, March 16

Chalmette was once part of the historic, celebrated Catholic League.

Based on the way the Owls have performed this season, perhaps the Owls would like to be part of the league once again.

Chalmette defeated Archbishop Rummel 7-3 at Noel Suarez Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Raiders grabbed the lead on a solo home run to center field by Rhett Centanni in the top of the third but the Owls responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame.

Rummel got two runs in the top of the fifth but Chalmette responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.

Cole Armstrong paced Chalmette with two hits and four RBI while Dylan Bryan, Evan Jacob and Cameron Tipton each drove in a run for the Owls.

Bryce Wilson started for Chalmette and went two shutout innings, giving way to Cannon Lion, who went two and two-third innings and was credited with the win.

Bryce Babin came on to slam the door late, pitching two and a third scoreless innings, striking out three while walking just one to pick up the save.

Brock Bullinger took the loss for Rummel (9-5-1), which has lost five straight games.

Chalmette (10-3) has now won six straight games and the Owls now have wins over Holy Cross, Shaw and Rummel and have lost to Jesuit and St. Augustine of the Catholic League.

The Owls will take on Northshore in tournament action Saturday morning on the north shore while the Raiders open play Thursday in the Mandeville Tournament.

St. Thomas Aquinas handled Archbishop Hannan 11-4 in Hammond.

Southeastern Louisiana commit Dane Watts picked up the win while Nicholls State commit Jordan Trapani had two his and three RBI while Justin Domiano also had two hits and three RBI.

STA (9-5) will next play Thursday against Belle Chasse at St. Amant. Hannan (6-9) will host Franklinton Friday.
