The season just ended for the Pelicans but the man who was not a part of it was the center of attention the day after their elimination from the NBA playoffs.

Zion Williamson is eligible for a rookie contract so the Pelicans can offer him a five-year deal worth upwards of $186 million starting in 2023-23.

Although he wasn;t asked specifically about the terms of the extensions Friday, it is assumed his answer refers to accepting the maximum, if offered.

“I wouldn’t be able to sign it fast enough,” responded to WDSU’s Fletcher Mackel.

Williamson did not play at all during the 2021-22 campaign or New Orleans’ playoff run after having surgery to repair a fractured bone in is foot.

The 2021 All-Star spent the season rehabbing while his team dig itself out of a 3-16 start to make the NBA play-in tournament at the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The Pelicans saw their postseaosn run end with a Game 6 loss Thursday night to the top-seeded Suns.
