Warren Easton-Karr showdown highlights final Thursday night of prep football regular season
They are the two best teams in Louisiana in Class 4A and two of the best teams in the state in any class.
If you plan on going to Behrman Stadium tonight, make sure you get there early as Karr entertains Warren Easton with the District 9-4A championship and the top-seed in the upcoming 4A playoffs on the line.
The Eagles have senior quarterback Lance Legendre and running back Shaddie Clayton to contend with, along with very good receivers. Jahmal Sam had a pair of interception returns for touchdowns a week ago. Sam is a UL-Lafayette commit. Tackle Sedrick Van Pran is very good up front for the Eagles.
Karr quarterback Leonard Kelly has been outstanding. He had four touchdown passes in last week’s victory over Helen Cox. Ronnie Jackson and Ahmad Antoine remain a good one-two punch in the running game while Khalfani Simmons, Larry Junior and Jahii Howard are excellent receivers. Devin Bush is terrific on the defensive side of the ball.
A year ago, Karr beat Warren Easton twice, winning 40-6 in the regular season before prevailing 20-12 in the Class 4A semifinals. The Cougars have won the last three meetings with the last Eagles victory over Karr coming in 2015 when Easton prevailed 40-14.
With this being the final weekend of the regular season, many teams are playing on Thursday night to try to get a jump on the state playoffs, which begin next Friday night for non-select teams.
The other big matchup locally this evening pits Live Oak (5-4) against Holy Cross (6-3) at 7 p.m. at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Holy Cross is currently unofficially in the eighth spot in the Division I power ratings with a chance to finish seventh or even sixth with a win. Live Oak is currently 35th and desperately needs a win to get into the playoffs in Class 5A. Live Oak won last year’s matchup 14-13 at home.
