Volleyball: Pope John Paul II, Mount Carmel, Ben Franklin remain unbeaten

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Sept. 2

Pope John Paul II is always a threat to win a state championship.

Danny Tullis has one of the elite programs in Louisiana and the Jaguars are solid again this season.

Pope John Paul II improved to 3-0 with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 win over Mandeville on Thursday in Slidell.

Kayla Benedic led the charge with 20 kills and four digs, Chloe Smith had nine kills and 13 digs while Gabby Beaudette finished with nine kills and three aces. Ali Tullis produced 39 assists and nine digs, Reagan McVay finished with 16 digs and Peyton Natal had two aces and four digs.

The Jaguars (3-0) face an early season showdown at Mount Carmel Academy next Tuesday.

The Cubs, always a threat to win a state tile, are looking good as well.

Mount Carmel (2-0) handled Vandebilt Catholic 25-9, 25-17, 25-12 in Houma.

Senior Makayla Page had 11 kills, five digs and two blocks while senior Julianna Indovina added 10 kills, five digs and two blocks and senior Sarah Bernadas had seven kills. Junior Nola Sevin had 16 digs and senior Lindsey Wickersham had 15 digs. Emma Richey finished with 21 assists, seven digs and a kill and Ellen Brown had 17 assists, four digs and an ace.

Ben Franklin made it two straight wins to open the season with a tough 27-25, 25-23, 25-22 victory over St. Scholastica on the Lakefront.

Cori Staes led the attack with 13 kills and two blocks and Annika Roberson put down 10 kills with two blocks. Emma Fisackerly served three aces and had 18 digs, Zoe Bell had 25 digs, Kat Kondkar finished with 16 assists and Lily Mayes had 16 digs.

Both teams return to action next Tuesday. The Falcons (2-0) travel to St. Martinville while the Doves (0-2) will travel to Mandeville.
