Louisiana Prep Playoff Volleyball Report for Sunday, Nov. 5

Nine area schools punched their tickets Saturday to the LHSAA state volleyball tournament in Lafayette.

Three-time defending Division I state champion and top-seeded Dominican took care of business, handling No. 16 Ponchatoula 25-10, 25-7, 25-13 Saturday in regional round playoff action.

Camryn Chatellier led Dominican with 14 kills and 11 digs, Zoie Mitchell had seven kills and three aces and Tamia Williams had six kills. Lauren Pipiton had 15 digs and served three aces. Emma Hoover had eight kills and six digs while Christina Curtis had 12 digs and 11 assists for the Green Wave.

Dominican (40-2) has won 18 straight matches and will play No. 9 Fontainebleau Thursday in the quarterfinals at the Cajundome. The Bulldogs (26-15) went on the road and outlasted No. 8 Hahnville 25-15, 9-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-8.

Dominican defeated Fontainebleau 25-21, 25-21 in the St. Joseph’s Academy Tournament on Sept. 22.

No. 2 Mount Carmel Academy advanced with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 win over No. 18 East Ascension.

The Cubs (28-7) will face No. 7 Ruston in the quarterfinals. The Bearcats overcame No. 10 Mandeville in four sets, 17-25, 25-18, 25-18, 27-25.

No. 4 Slidell had no problem with No. 13 Terrebonne, winning 25-12, 25-12, 25-7 at home.

Ava Barduca and Reagan Robinson each had nine kills, Demoni Lewis had six kills and 15 digs while Addison Dowell and Ava Labat each had five kills. Robinson and Labat each had four blocks while Dowell finished with six blocks. Robinson had 19 digs while Labat had 43 assists and nine digs. Ella Kate Spilling had 12 digs.

The Tigers (34-5) will play No. 5 Sam Houston in the quarterfinals in Lafayette. The Broncos defeated No. 12 Natchitoches Central 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 in the regional round.

No. 11 Archbishop Chapelle advanced in a five-set thriller, outlasting No. 27 Northshore 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13 in Metairie.

Isabella McCann had 21 kills and nine digs. Ava Kirsch finished with 15 kills and Hailey Bellande had seven kills. Victoria McCann finished with seven kills, 28 assists, 15 digs and two aces and Carmen Wetzel had 33 digs.

The Chipmunks (22-18) will battle No. 3 Dutchtown in the quarterfinals. The Griffins eliminated No. 19 Central Lafourche 25-13, 25-12, 25-7.

In Division II, No. 2 Ben Franklin handled No. 18 Warren Easton 25-8, 25-6, 25-17 at home.

The Falcons (35-7) will take on No. 10 Kenner Discovery in Lafayette. The Swamp Owls (21-12) rallied past No. 26 Breaux Bridge 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 26-24 at the Muss Bertolino Playground gym.

Chae Alexander led the Kenner Discovery (21-12) attack with 10 kills, 18 assists and a block, Brianna Litolff had six kills, 13 assists and an ace, Emily West finished with five kills, four blocks, two aces and an assist and had the key block to seal the match.

No. 4 St. Scholastica whipped No. 13 South Lafourche 25-3, 25-16, 25-1.

Lauren Gazely had 12 kills and nine digs, Julia Whitfield had seven kills, Thea Ropollo had five kills and three blocks and Mia Casi had five kills. Olivia Palmer contributed 19 assists and 15 digs, Emily Devlin had 16 assists and five digs, Sophia Schliem had 16 digs and Maryelle Migliore finished with 16 digs, six assists and four aces.

The Doves (24-13) advance to Lafayette to take on a familiar opponent in District 5-II rival and No. 12 seed Lakeshore. The Titans (16-15) came to New Orleans and knocked off No. 5 McDonogh 35 by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-22.

St. Scholastica downed Lakeshore in four sets on Oct. 10 in a district matchup.

No. 6 Academy of Our Lady is in the quarterfinals after defeating No. 11 West Ouachita 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 in Marrero.

The Penguins (27-9) will face No. 3 Teurlings Catholic in the quarterfinals. The Rebels defeated No. 14 Liberty 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.
