Jesuit, Dominican win metro swim titles
Jesuit is poised to make another serious run at a state swimming championship.
Dominant all season, the Blue Jays continued that level of performance Saturday, winning the New Orleans metro championships in convincing fashion at Franco’s in Mandeville.
The Blue Jays finished with 359 points to easily outdistance E.D. White Catholic, with 236 points, for the title.
Enzo Solitario was a double winner for Jesuit, winning the 50 and 100 freestyle sprints, edging rival Calix Hammett or Archbishop Rummel in both events. He also anchored the 400 freestyle relay win for the Blue Jays. Solitario was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the meet. Jesuit also won the 200 medley relay. Jack Primeaux was also a double winner for Jesuit, taking first in the 100 backstroke and as part of the 200 medley relay win.
Dominican showed it is ready to make a run at a state title as well.
Dominican won the girls competition easily with 444.5 points, easily outdistancing rival Mount Carmel Academy with 234 points.
Freshman Kendall Jollands led the way as a 4-time winner. Jollands won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke and was part of the winning relay teams in the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relay. Izzy Mundee of The Willow School was a 2-time winner, capturing the 200 and 500-meter freestyle races.
