Volleyball: Mount Carmel, Chalmette, John Curtis with wins Thursday

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Oct. 20

Mount Carmel Academy rolled over West Jefferson 25-2, 25-2, 25-5 in Harvey Thursday to remain unbeaten in District 7-I action.

Senior Caroline Harris had eight kills freshman Gabrielle Locascio and junior Giselle Estrada each had six kills. Emma Richey and Nola Sevin each served nine aces. Sevin had 17 digs while Richey added 30 assists and six digs.

The Cubs (29-8, 5-0) travel to Baton Rouge to face St. Joseph’s Academy Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The Buccaneers (5-12, 0-5) entertain South Plaquemines Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Chalmette defeated Kenner Discovery 25-17, 25-15, 25-23 in a non-district matchup.

Gabrielle Landry had 13 kills, two blocks and two aces, JoDee McMichael added seven kills and four digs and Alivyah Peters finished with two kills, 18 digs and an ace. Cecilia Higgins added 13 digs.

The Owls (22-11) return to District 7-I action next Tuesday at Archbishop Chapelle at 5:30 p.m.

The Swamp Owls (16-11) host Carver Monday at 4:30 p.m. in a District 8-II contest.

John Curtis Christian defeated Crescent City Christian 25-13, 25-13, 24-26, 25-20 in Metairie.

Makayla Morter and Ina Smith each produced 12 kills. Smith added three blocks. Marissa Taix had 23 digs and Alyzia Cola-Grayson finished with 41 assists and three aces.

Both teams return to action Monday.

The Patriots (25-5) play at 5:30 p.m. at Haynes Academy while the Pioneers (22-13) travel to De La Salle, also at 5:30 p.m.
