A large number of the entries in Saturday’s Gulf Coast Road 2 Junior Gold tour stop at Bowlero Kenner were from the New Orleans area, but the majority of winners came from outside the New Orleans area.

Garrett Nelson of Lucedale, Mississippi, won the sudden death elimination final in the Boys U18 division, while Dutchtown junior Sydney Lee took the title in the Girls U18 division.

Nelson defeated Jesuit’s Jonathan Cho 178-175 in the Boys U18 final match. Brother Martin’s Sam Vollenweider, who rolled a 277 game in qualifying, finished third.

Lee – the only bowler in the tournament to average above 200 in the five games of qualifying over a 35-foot sport pattern – defeated Jordan Wingerter of St. Joseph’s Academy 187-174 in the Girls U18 final. Chapelle’s Olivia Bares finished fourth.

The Boys U15 title went to Jace Tran of Pensacola, Florida, while Addison Tran of Harvey was the only winner from the metro area, taking the Girls U15 title.

Aiden Jones of Houma was second and Brady Fay of Marrero finished third in the Boys U15.

Evan McGloster of Jackson, Mississippi, was the winner in the combined U12 division. Zander Tran of Harvey finished second and Andrew Puszczewicz of River Ridge finished third.

The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the 2024 Junior Gold Championships, which will be held in the Detroit area. As of Sunday night, tournament officials were still finalizing the list of those who earned Junior Gold berths.
