DENTON, Texas – Tulane University men’s basketball (10-4, 1-1) lost its first American Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday as the Green Wave’s offense was stifled by North Texas (9-5, 2-0) in a 70-56 loss. The Green Wave made a late run to pull within seven but was unfortunately unable to pull any closer in the final minutes.

Collin Holloway led the Wave in scoring against the Mean Green finishing with 17 points to go with five rebounds. His 17-point performance marked the junior’s eighth game this season with double figures in scoring. Sion James was the only other player for Tulane to reach double-digits in points as he posted 10 points which all came in the second half.

The game’s leading scorer was Jason Edwards of North Texas who posted a career-high 37 points with a career-best eight made threes. CJ Noland and Aaron Scott also added double figures for the Mean Green with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Tulane scored the first bucket of the afternoon before the Wave and the Mean Green began trading buckets over the first several minutes of the first half. The Green Wave trailed by three points with 3:46 left in the half, but North Texas held Tulane scoreless while adding the final seven point of the frame. Tulane hit the locker room in Denton, Texas, facing a 38-28 deficit.

After North Texas extended the Wave’s deficit to 16 in the first few minutes of the second half, Tulane began to chip away by turning up the pressure defensively. Back-to-back turnovers forced by the Wave capped a 9-0 scoring run that pulled Tulane within seven (56-49) with 5:20 remaining. However, the Green Wave would not climb any closer in the final minutes ultimately dropping its first road conference game 70-56 to North Texas.

Up next, Tulane return home to host No. 17 Florida Atlantic in Uptown on Thursday, January 11. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Owls is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
