The long awaited official debut for Patrick Taylor as a varsity football program is next Thursday night at Joe Yenni Stadium against Grace King.

Based on jamboree results from Thursday night, it should be a very interesting matchup.

In the West Bank Jamboree at Hoss Memtsas Stadium, Patrick Taylor handled Jefferson Rise Charter 27-6. In the second game, John Ehret downed Higgins 21-6

The Tigers scored all of their points in the first half.

Patrick Taylor scored in all three phases of the game.

Ethan Barthelemy forced a fumble on the opening kickoff Brice Boutte scooped it up and returned it for a touchdown.

On offense, Larry Cole scored on a 15-yard run and Ethan Tran threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Harrison Pfister.

The final score was an interception return for a touchdown by Alex Fisher.

Patrick Taylor coach Kenny Bourgeois came away from the experience very pleased.

“We played how we wanted,” Bourgeois said. “I was very happy. We came out and executed. We made some mistakes but the kids played well and played very well, with good energy. I was very happy that we scored in all three aspects of the game. We improved.”

Now comes the first official game Thursday night against Grace King.

“We are looking forward to that first game, excited to debut,” Bourgeois said. “Coach Brian Glover is doing a good job at Grace King. We have to come out and execute if we want to have a chance to win. It should be a good, physical battle.”

In the George Baxter Memorial Jamboree at Walker High, Grace King outscored Springfield 41-26.

Eric Nicholas was the star of the jamboree for the Fighting Irish, scoring three touchdowns. On Grace King’s opening play from scrimmage, Paul Jones had a long touchdown run. Maniecko Rickman returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown.

“We had a few good plays and some guys play well,” Grace King coach Brian Glover said. “I felt it was for the kids to get good work and start to get ramped up for the season. It is always good to see different uniforms to evaluate where you are. Our kickoff coverage must improve. We have not been outdoors much to work on that.”

Glover looks forward to the opener with the Tigers.

“We are looking forward to playing Patrick Taylor,” Glover said. “We played them in a junior varsity game last year. We see they are improving. We know we will have to prepare well and play well but I expect us to continue to progress. Our focus is mostly on us, to execute what we do, limit mistakes and play hard.”
