State softball brackets set as playoffs begin Friday

There are no top seeds among area teams in the 10 LHSAA softball classifications but several are high seeds as the playoffs begin today.

In Select Division I, St. Thomas More (29-3) is the No. 1 seed. The Cougars get a bye before meeting the winner of No. 17 Ben Franklin ( and No. 16 Caddo Magnet, who meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at Caddo Magnet.

Tioga (20-3) is the second seed with a bye.

Defending state champion John Curtis Christian (24-8) is the third seed. The Patriots get a bye before hosting the winner of No. 14 John Ehret (18-5) and No. 19 Woodlawn of Baton Rouge (11-9), who meet Monday at 4 p.m. at Ehret.

No. 4 Pineville (23-10) has a first-round bye.

No. 5 Archbishop Chapelle (25-5) has a bye and will host the winner of No. 12 Captain Shreve, who will host No. 21 Karr (9-13) Monday at 5 p.m.

No. 9 Mount Carmel Academy (14-11) will host No. 24 Byrd Monday at 4 p.m. at Muss Bertolino Playground.

No. 10 Dominican (20-10) entertains No. 23 St. Scholastica (6-16) Monday at 4 p.m. at Harahan Playground.

In a meeting of local teams, No. 11 Riverdale (18-8) welcomes No. 22 McMain (10-13) Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Jefferson Playground.

No. 18 Warren Easton (11-9) plays at No. 15 Lafayette (11-13) today at 4:30 p.m.

No. 20 West Jefferson (7-9) travels to No. 13 Northwood Monday at 4:30 p.m.

In Select Division II, Buckeye (21-9) gets the top seed and a bye.

Vandebilt Catholic (26-7) is the No. 2 seed with a bye before the Terriers face the winner of No. 18 New Orleans Science & Math (7-10) and No. 15 Teurlings Catholic, who square off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Lafayette.

Defending state champion Archbishop Hannan (16-11) is the third seed with a bye. The Hawks will play the winner of No. 14 Lafayette Christian and No. 19 Madison Prep in the regional round.

No. 4 David Thibodaux (17-7) has a bye.

No. 6 Academy of Our Lady (17-13) has a bye before taking on the winner of No. 11 Bunkie and No.22 Washington-Marion.

No. 7 Haynes Academy (13-11) gets a bye before squaring off against the winner of No. 10 Kenner Discovery (12-8) and No. 23 John F. Kennedy (6-12), who meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the JPRD Complex in Metairie. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Cougars 15-0 on March 9.

No. 9 The Willow School (15-4) hosts No. 24 Douglass (6-5-1) at 4:30 p.m. today. The winner will take on No. 5 E.D. White Catholic (17-12) in Thibodaux in the regional round.

No. 13 Cabrini (15-11) entertains No. 20 Peabody Monday at 4 p.m.

No. 21 Landry (8-14) hits the road to face No. 12 St. Louis Catholic Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Westlake High.

In Select Division III, defending state champion Calvary Baptist (22-10) is the No. 1 seed with a bye. The Cavaliers will face the winner of No. 17 Newman ( and No. 16 Catholic of New Iberia in the regional round.

Defending state champion and No. 2 seed Notre Dame (27-3) has a bye and will meet the winner of No. 15 Fisher (11-11) and No. 18 Beekman Charter, who play Monday at 3 p.m. at PARD Playground.

No. 3 St. Charles Catholic (20-8) has a first-round bye before meeting the winner of No. 14 Loyola Prep and No. 19 Episcopal.

No. 4 Houma Christian (22-6 has a bye before taking on the winner of No. 13 Thomas Jefferson (10-13) and No. 20 Acadiana Renaissance Charter, who play Monday at 5 p.m. at Terrytown Playground.

No. 5 Pope John Paul II (18-8) has a bye before meeting the winner of No. 12 Dunham and No. 21 University Lab.

No. 7 Patrick Taylor (18-3) has a bye before squaring off against the winner of No. 23 Ursuline Academy (5-11) and No. 10 Parkview Baptist, who play Monday at 5 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Patrick Taylor defeated Ursuline 21-0 on March 14.

Country Day (20-1) gets the eighth seed with a bye. The Cajuns will take on the winner of No. 9 Holy Savior Menard and No. 24 St. Mary’s Academy (6-14), who meet Monday at 5 p.m. in Alexandria.

No. 11 Northlake Christian (12-12) entertains No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas (3-13) Monday at 5 p.m. in a rematch of District 7-2A rivals. The Wolverines handled the Falcons 16-0 on March 31.

In Select Division IV, Catholic of Pointe Coupee (21-10) gets the top seed with a bye.

No. 2 Riverside Academy (17-9) has a bye before meeting the winner of No. 15 Slaughter Community College and No. 18 Delta Charter.

No. 3 St. Frederick (19-9) and No. 4 Cedar Creek (16-13) each have byes.

No. 7 Sacred Heart (18-13-1) has a bye before taking on the winner of No. 10 Covenant Christian (15-11) and No. 23 False River, who play today at 5:30 p.m.

No. 22 St. Martin’s Episcopal (9-6) travels to No. 11 St. Mary’s of Natchitoches Monday at 5 p.m.

No. 24 McGehee (9-10) heads to No. 9 Ascension Catholic Monday at 5:30 p.m. The winner will head to No. 8 Central Catholic (17-8), who gets a bye.

In Select Division V, defending state champion Claiborne Christian (23-4) gets the top seed with a bye while Grace Christian (18-10) is the No. 2 seed. St. Joseph’s-Plaucheville (14-13) is the third seed and Family Community (11-10) is the fourth seed.

In Non-Select Division I, defending state champion St. Amant (28-2) is the top seed with Live Oak (29-4) seeded second. Sam Houston (28-2) is third with West Monroe (23-9) the No. 4 seed. All have opening round byes.

Northshore (23-6) has the eighth seed and the Panthers will host No. 25 New Iberia Monday at 4 p.m.

Fontainebleau (14-5) gets the No. 10 seed and will entertain No. 23 Benton (15-15).

No. 16 Hahnville (17-13) will host No. 17 Ponchatoula (21-12) Monday at 4 p.m. The Green Wave defeated the Tigers 12-2 on Feb. 18 at Hahnville.

No. 18 Chalmette (17-9) heads to No. 15 East Ascension Monday at 6 p.m.

No. 24 Covington (21-11) travels to No. 9 Central this evening at 6:30 p.m.

No 26 Slidell (15-16) heads to No. 7 West Ouachita Monday at 5 p.m.

In Non-Select Division II, defending state champion North DeSoto (31-2) is the No. 1 seed with a bye.

Albany (23-3) is No. 2 with a bye. The Hornets will meet the winner of No. 15 Belle Chasse (12-10) and No. 18 Lakeshore (10-13).

No. 3 Beau Chene (23-2) and No. 4 Iowa (19-9) also have byes.

No. 24 Pearl River (8-11) heads to No. 9 Grant Monday at 5 p.m.

No. 7 Lutcher (17-10) plays today, hosting No. 26 Bastrop at 4 p.m.

No. 8 Assumption (21-9) will entertain No. 25 Leesville Monday at 4 p.m.

No. 21 Franklinton (12-11) heads to No. 12 Minden Monday at 4 p.m.

No. 23 Loranger (11-16) plays today at No. 10 North Vermilion at 4 p.m.

In Non-Select Division III, Sterlington (28-6) is the top seed with Kaplan (23-8) second, both with byes. Sterlington will face the winner of No. 16 Pine (11-7) and No. 17 Berwick (10-12), who meet Monday at 5 p.m. at Pine.

Doyle (20-11) gets the third seed with a first-round bye. The Tigers will play the winner of No. 19 Jewel Sumner (18-16) and No. 14 Marksville, who meet Monday at 6 p.m.

No. 18 Springfield (12-15) plays at No. 15 Mamou Monday at 5 p.m.

No. 20 St. James (14-14) travels to No. 13 Rosepine.

In Non-Select Division IV, LaSalle (22-10) is the top seed with a bye. LaSalle will meet the winner of No. 16 South Plaquemines (9-12) and No. 17 Haynesville, who will play Monday at 4 p.m. at Roger Halphen Park.

Defending state champion Montgomery (23-8) is the second-seed with a bye.

Logansport (20-10) is the third-seed with a bye while French Settlement (20-10) gets the fourth seed and a bye.

No. 26 West St. John (5-3-1) heads to No. 7 Oakdale Monday at 5 p.m.

In Non-Select Division V, defending state champion Holden (19-10) is the No. 1 seed with a bye. The Rockets will meet the winner of No. 16 Zwolle and No. 17 Summerfield.

No. 2 Quitman (26-5) and No. 3 Florien (18-8) each get a bye.

No. 20 Maurepas (9-19) plays at No. 13 Saline today at 5 p.m. The winner will play at No. 4 Converse (21-7).
