Sports Takes Sure To Be Wrong (Although We Know The Majority Of These Will Be Right) | Pelicans should be bold

Admit it.

You like this New Orleans Pelicans team.

I mean you really, really fourth-grade crush on Chandra Russell (Sorry, flashback to my elementary school days) like them, especially now that football season over in New Orleans and people are eating king cakes.

The Pelicans have a good coach and they play hard. Zion Williamson seems to be over his injury and lack of maturity issues from last year. They have a good group of guys.

Barring a devastating injury, New Orleans is a playoff team and will be a playoff team for years to come.

Still, something is missing.

The Pelicans are who they are – team that might luck into a top-four seed in the Western Conference and may win a playoff series, but they aren’t good enough to make you start thinking about purchasing conference finals tickets.

And while that is nice, that’s not good enough, and deep down you know it.

It’s time for the Pelicans to make a bold move or two to try to win the NBA championship or at least make it to the finals.

I’m not saying do something stupid like trade someone in the Core Three. I’m just saying use their immense draft capital and their deep roster to bring in one more star to get them over the hump.

Indiana made a bold move with the trade for Pascal Siakam.

Why can’t the Pelicans swing for the fences?

One move could be just what it takes to get the Pelicans past the Nuggets, Timberwolves and Thunder. (I would add the Clippers, but they have annual post-season disappearing act James Harden who is a playoff upset magnet.)

Maybe the Pelicans should bring in a shooter like Klay Thompson? What about Zach LaVine? Maybe this is the time to try to pry a center away from a team that is tanking?

You know it is okay to go shopping less than a month after Christmas.

Here are some more “Sports Takes Sure To Be Wrong (Although We Know The Majority Of These Will Be Right)”….

Derek Carr is the big winner with the Saints’ decision to fire offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. Now Carr gets to have an offensive coordinator with a system even more tailored to his skills.

The big loser could be Jameis Winston. If I were Saints coach Dennis Allen armed with a little job security and a new offensive coordinator, I would make sure to have a backup quarterback who is willing to run a play I send in regardless of the circumstances or “team decisions.”

J.J. McCarthy reminds me of Tom Brady when the latter played at Michigan. If I were the Saints, I wouldn’t pass him up in the NFL Draft.

You mean all it took to win the NFC South was some competent quarterbacking and good coaching? Don’t worry. The Buccaneers are going to lose to the Lions.

I don’t care what type of deal is offered, I’m not paying to watch a playoff game on TV. I’ll listen to the game on the radio before I do that.

I’m trying to decide what team had the biggest choke – the Dolphins, Cowboys or Eagles. I’m leaning towards the Eagles, because they were 10-1 at one point. However, the Cowboys were embarrassed at home and the last time the Dolphins won the Super Bowl a lot of photographers were still using black-and-white film.

Speaking of the Cowboys, the playoff loss to the Packers was so bad I thought you could pretty much bet the mortgage that owner Jerry Jones was going to make some kind of knee-jerk big name coaching move. Surprisingly, no. For now.

And finally…

This just seems like Buffalo’s year to win the Super Bowl.
