Softball: Slidell stays hot; Dominican with walk-off win Friday

Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, March 23

Slidell is one of the hottest teams in the area in prep softball.

The Tigers have now won 12 of 13 games after whipping New Iberia 7-1 Friday.

The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the first inning to establish control early. The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning before Slidell scored three runs in the fourth and added another run in the fifth.

Hollie Flower had a double and two RBI while Bree McCleary and Eddrian Schenkel each had two hits, including a double with an RBI. McCleary picked up the win, going four innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits. McCleary walked none and struck out eight. Bailey Mackles pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with five walks and eight strikeouts to pick up the save.

Slidell (14-4) returns to action in District 6-5A play Tuesday at Ponchatoula at 5 p.m. New Iberia fell to 7-11 with the loss.

Dominican scored a walk-off 3-2 win over Pope John Paul II Friday in Harahan.

The Jaguars scored twice in the top of the first before Dominican scored two runs in the second to tie it, setting the stage for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Maddie Branch had two hits and an RBI, Delaney Durr had a hit and an RBI and Aubrey Daigrepont drove in a run as well.

Daigrepont went the distance to pick up the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits. Daigrepont walked one and struck out three.

Dominican (9-12) returns to District 9-5A play Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Mount Carmel Academy at Muss Bertolino Playground.

Pope John Paul II (7-9) is back in 7-2A play Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas at 4 p.m.
