Softball: Mandeville wins district opener

Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, March 8

Mandeville blanked Covington 7-0 in the District 6-5A opener for both teams at Covington Thursday.

The Skippers scored single runs in the first and third innings before distancing themselves with four runs in the fourth inning. Mandeville finished the scoring with a run in the seventh inning.

Hailey Marange picked up the win, going four innings, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts. Kara Henry pitched three scoreless frames in relief, allowing four hits with one walk.

Henry had three hits, including a double and drove in three runs while Lindsay Berniard had a hit and drove in three runs. Peyton Miller drove in a run for the Skippers.

Megan Wicker took the loss for the Lions, allowing five earned runs in six innings. Marissa Taylor had a double for Covington.

Mandeville (9-3, 1-0) has won three straight and returns to action today against Zachary at 3:30 p.m.

The Lions (4-8, 0-1) will host Cabrini Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Make it nine straight wins for Mount Carmel Academy.

The Cubs blasted Haynes Academy 19-1 at the JPRD complex Thursday.

Mount Carmel produced 17 hits.

Paige Reuther pitched five innings, allowing one run on one hit and struck out 10. Reuther added two hits, including a home run and two RBI. Brooklyn Butler and Jullian Domiano each had two hits and drove in four runs. Bailey Nelson and Emri Roussel each had three hits and drove in a pair of runs while Hayden Traub had two hits and two RBI.

The Cubs (9-0) return to action today against Sam Houston at St. Amant at 3:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets (7-3) will host Slidell Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the JPRD complex.

Dominican came from behind to double up Hahnville 6-3 at Hahnville.

The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the first and added a run in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Dominican rallied with two runs in the top of the fifth inning and scored four runs in the sixth to win it.

Evelyn Booth had a hit and two RBI and scored a run while Delaney Durr and Sharah Steeg each had a hit and an RBI. Autum Green added an RBI for Dominican.

Aubrey Daigrepont picked up the win, going the distance, allowing three runs on 10 hits with four walks.

Jenna Cancienne absorbed the loss for the Tigers, going 5.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) with three walks and a strikeout. Emersen Tregre pitched the final 1.2 innings. Cancienne had three hits, including a home run and drove in all three runs for Hahnville. Amberly Dempster added two doubles and scored a run.

Dominican (7-6) will open District 9-5A play against Archbishop Chapelle next Tuesday.

Hahnville (7-6) will play Caldwell Parish Saturday.
