Softball: Hahnville tops Destrehan; Mount Carmel wins over Belle Chasse

Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, March 22

It is one of the best rivalries in Louisiana in every sport.

This time around, Hahnville earned bragging rights and got a leg up in the District 7-5A standings with a convincing 15-5 win over Destrehan at home Thursday in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule in a battle of district unbeatens.

Each team scored three runs in the first inning before Hahnville took a 6-3 lead after two innings. It was 7-4 after three innings before the Tigers scored twice in the fourth inning to make it 9-4. After Destrehan cut the deficit to 9-5 with a run in the top of the fifth, Hahnville broke it open, walking it off with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Adeline Bertrand and Jordyn Chaix each had three hits, including a home run with two RBI while Jenna Cancienne homered and drove in three runs. Emma Jackson and Kloe White each had a hit and two RBI. White went the distance to pick up the win, allowing three earned runs on just two hits. White walked five and struck out seven.

Jolie Lozano took the loss for Destrehan. Lozano had two hits, including a home run while Rylie Staton had a hit and two RBI for the Wildcats.

Hahnville (15-9, 3-0) has won three straight games and returns to action Saturday at St. Thomas More at 3 p.m.

Destrehan (15-6, 2-1) saw its five-game win streak end. The Wildcats return to district play next Tuesday at Terrebonne at 4 p.m.

Mount Carmel Academy bounced back from a tough loss to Archbishop Chapelle with a convincing 14-1 win over Belle Chasse in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Paige Reuther allowed no earned runs, limiting the Cardinals to two hits to pick up the win. Reuther struck out seven. Hayden Traub was the hitting star with three hits, including a 3-run home run with five RBI. Shelbi Alphonso had two hits and two RBI, Chloe Krey had two hits and an RBI while Emri Roussel added two hits for the Cubs.

Mount Carmel (11-5) will entertain Ben Franklin Saturday at 11 a.m. at Muss Bertolino Playground.

Belle Chasse (11-7) will host Thomas Jefferson Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
