Softball: Chapelle, Lutcher among winners Wednesday

Area Prep Softball Report for Thursday, April 4

Archbishop Chapelle went to Reserve and downed defending Select Division IV state champion Riverside Academy 7-2 Wednesday.

After the Rebels took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Chapelle scored twice in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Chipmunks added two runs in the fifth and two in the top of the sixth to make it 6-1. Riverside got a run in the bottom of the sixth but Chapelle got the run back in the top of the seventh.

Southern Miss signee Kayla Giardina pitched and hit her team to victory.

Giardina had two hits, including a double and three RBI and walked. On the mound, Giardina pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run with two walks and eight strikeouts. Taylor Allen had two hits and two RBI while Kam DiMaggio and Allie Domangue each had a hit and an RBI.

Kylie Bordelon took the loss, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Sophomore Olivia St. Pierre had a hit and an RBI for Riverside.

Chapelle (17-6), fifth in the Select Division I power ratings, will entertain St. Charles Catholic at 5 p.m. Monday at Butch Duhe Playground.

Riverside (14-7), fourth in the Select Division IV power ratings, will entertain West St. John next Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a District 10-1A contest to conclude its regular season.

Lutcher stayed hot, edging Academy of Our Lady 7-5 for its seventh straight victory.

Blair Clement and Alexis Lyons each homered for the Bulldogs.

Lutcher (18-6), second in the Non-Select Division II power ratings, returns to action to play at French Settlement at 5 p.m.

The Penguins (14-9), sixth in the Select Division II power ratings, will conclude their season next Tuesday at home against Covenant Christian.
