Softball: Chapelle continues to roll, Riverdale wins Friday

Area Prep Softball Report for Saturday, March 25

An outstanding season continued Friday for Archbishop Chapelle at the E.D. White Tournament in Thibodaux.

The Chipmunks won twice, knocking off highly ranked Vandebilt Catholic 5-1. The Chipmunks have won 11 straight games.

Chapelle jumped on the Terriers early with three runs in first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth innings. Vandebilt Catholic got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Kayla Giardina pitched a complete game four-hitter, allowing an unearned run. Giardina walked one and struck out 15 in a dominant performance.

Kelsie Schmidt drove in a pair of runs while Mia Impastato had two hits and an RBI. Kamryn Dimaggio added two hits and an RBI and Katie Deslatte had two hits.

Ava Hazzard had two hits and an RBI while Mallory Thibodaux added two hits for the Terriers. Lauren Baudoin took the loss, allowing just one earned run on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Chapelle made it a sweep, defeating Berwick 7-3.

After each team scored a run in the second inning, Chapelle took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third. Berwick cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fifth before the Chipmunks scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and once in the sixth to make it 7-2. Berwick got its final run in the seventh inning.

Delaney Trosclair pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits. She walked five and struck out six. Deslatte and Impastato each had three hits and two RBI while Allie Domangue had two hits and an RBI and Addy Stein drove in a run for Chapelle, now 19-2 on the season.

Riverdale downed New Orleans Science & Math 14-4 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule at Jefferson Playground.

Lindsey Johnson and Morgan Williams each pitched two innings for the Rebels, totaling five strikeouts. Kerrielle Brown and Tamryn King each drove in four runs for Riverdale.

The Rebels (10-6) return to action Monday at home against West Jefferson at 4 p.m. at Jefferson Playground.

New Orleans Science & Math (4-7) will play at Karr Monday at 4 p.m.
