Soccer Playoff Report: Hannan boys, girls earn opening round wins

Area Prep Soccer Playoff Report for Friday, Feb. 5

No. 12 Archbishop Hannan opened the Division III boys playoffs with a 2-0 shutout victory at home over No. 21 De La Salle Thursday.

The Hawks scored a goal in each half.

William Murphy scored in the first half before James Pham sealed the verdict with a second half goal.

Hannan (12-9-4) advances to play at #5 E.D. White Catholic in the regional round. The Cardinals had a first round bye. E.D. White edged Hannan 2-1 in the same round of the playoffs a year ago.

In girls action, 11th-seeded Hannan easily dismissed No. 22 Livonia 8-0.

The Hawks scored six goals in the first half and finished it off with a pair of second half goals.

Hannan (7-6-1) moves on to travel to No. 6 St. Louis Catholic next Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Other area teams advancing thus far in the first round on the boys side include Jesuit in Division I and East Jefferson in Division II.

Area teams advancing in girls playoff action thus far include Hahnville, Mandeville, Northshore and Mount Carmel Academy in Division I, Pearl River, Hannan and Lutcher in Division III and Northlake Christian, Riverside Academy and Pope John Paul II in Division IV.
