Carver and Karr boys, Ursuline girls win Thursday

Area Prep Basketball Report for Friday, Feb. 5

Carver continued its outstanding season, winning Thursday evening at Lusher Charter, 65-47.

Dorian Finisher led the Rams with 15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals, Jaylon Hicks scored 12 points with seven rebounds and Deion Ware had 11 points and four rebounds.

Carver (20-1) will play St. Augustine Saturday at 3 p.m. while the Lions (6-10) host McMain Monday at 7:15 p.m.

Karr completed a sweep of rival Landry, winning 46-41 at home in a key 11-4A battle.

Phillip Marshall and Leland Smith each had 11 points to pace the Cougars

Bennie Amos led Landry with 17 points while Jamond Vincent finished with 11 points.

Karr (13-10, 2-0) defeated Landry 58-55 on Jan. 5. The Cougars return to action in a non-district game at home Saturday against Plaquemine at 5 p.m. while the Buccaneers (11-12, 1-1) play at Newman Saturday at 5 p.m.

In girls action, Ursuline Academy handled Haynes Academy 71-34 in Metairie in a District 11-3A contest.

Nicole Young led Ursuline with 20 points, Leah Hines had 17 points and Tyrielle Williams finished with 14 points.

The Lions (16-7, 3-0) return to action Monday, hosting John F. Kennedy at 5 p.m. while the Yellow Jackets (3-10, 0-3) return to district play Monday at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Academy.
