Soccer: Holy Cross wins district title with 3-0 shutout of Lakeshore
Area Prep Soccer Report for Friday, Jan. 25
It was a battle of the top two teams in the most recent LHSAA Division II boys soccer power rankings. In the end, No. 1 was way too much for No. 2.
Defending Division II state champion Holy Cross claimed another district championship, shutting out Lakeshore 3-0 at home Thursday to capture the District 6-II championship.
Ethan Garvey was the star, putting two goals in the net, including one in each half. Chad Cadiere had the other goal for the Tigers, who led 2-0 at halftime.
Holy Cross (18-3-3) has not lost a match since Dec. 21, a 13-match streak of wins and three ties. They were coming off of an impressive scoreless tie with defending Division I state champion Jesuit on Tuesday.
The Tigers are the top-ranked team in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll. Holy Cross will host Ben Franklin Saturday at noon while the Titans (18-4-2), who had not lost in 13 matches, will entertain Archbishop Rummel Saturday at 11 am.
Garvey has been named to the LHSCA East Team All-Stars. The game will take place on Feb. 23 at the UL-Lafayette soccer complex.
