Report: LSU, New Mexico to meet in football in 2022

LSU Football at Tiger StadiumLSU will face New Mexico in football on Sept. 10, 2022 at Tiger Stadium, according to a report by the website FBSchedules.com, which received a copy of the game contract through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The schools have never met on the gridiron, though there is one significant connection between the schools – New Mexico athletic director Eddie Nunez spent 14 years on the LSU staff before assuming his post with the Lobos last August.

LSU will pay New Mexico a $1.6 million guarantee, according to the report.

The New Mexico game is the first on LSU’s 2022 non-conference schedule.

The Tigers’ 2019-2021 non-conference slates are complete, according to FBSchedules however, LSU currently only lists a handful of these games on its website (denoted by asterisks below).

2019 – Georgia Southern (Aug. 31), at Texas* (Sept. 7), Northwestern State (Sept. 14), Utah State (Oct. 5)

2020 – UTSA (Sept. 5), Texas* (Sept. 12), at Rice* (Sept. 19 at NRG Stadium), Nicholls (Oct. 3)

2021 – at UCLA* (Sept. 4), McNeese* (Sept. 11), Central Michigan* (Sept. 25), ULM (Oct. 9)
