Ju'Juan Johnson

Is LSU about to sign the next Jayden Daniels? Well, that’s saying a mouthful. However, the skill set of 2024 commitment Ju’Juan Johnson put to work during the 2023 high school season has been nothing short of amazing.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound quarterback for the Lafayette Christian Knights is now the state’s all-time record holder in total yards after breaking Brock Berlin’s previous career mark of 13,659 in a 57-21 win over McDonogh 35 in the Division II select state quarterfinals last week.

Against the Roneagles, Johnson accounted for 151 yards rushing and 163 yards through the air. For the 2023 campaign, he has accumulated 3,058 yards passing with 38 touchdown passes, completing 68% of his throws. As a runner, he has totaled 1,240 yards with 21 scores.

Thus far for his career, Johnson has 10,192 passing yards with 114 touchdown passes, while rushing for 3,541 yards (7.4 yards per carry) and 50 touchdowns. Nick Brossette set the state all-time mark with 167 career touchdowns, leaving Johnson four shy of holding that record as well.

The Knights are averaging 51.2 points per game, including a 61-38 win over state semifinalist Acadiana and a 51-18 romp against Jesuit. In the Division II Select semifinals LCA will face No. 7 seed Teurlings Catholic, a district foe the Knights dominated 62-3 in a meeting on October 12.

With 4.5 speed, Johnson has said he tries to model his game after Jayden Daniels.

For Johnson’s college future though, the secondary is his expected LSU home although he could get a chance to also lend a hand to the receiving corps. Johnson has expressed an interest for reps on offense. Could the four-star talent be a situational two-way performer for Brian Kelly?

ON THE TRAIL…

Thursday could be a big day for LSU in the recruiting department. Keylan Moses, afour-star recruit in the 2025 class, is set to make his announcement as to where he’s headed for college. The 6-3, 215 pounder has paired his finalists to LSU, Oregon and Florida.

Moses plays linebacker and running back for University Lab, a No. 5 seed visiting top-seed St. Charles Catholic this week in the Division III Select state semifinals. Keylan is the younger brother of Dylan Moses, a former University Lab linebacker who signed with Alabama in 2017.

Seemingly unblockable as a pass rusher, Moses will chase down plays. He is also a threat as a running back.

A regular attendee to LSU practices and games, Moses seems to be dialed into what Kelly is doing.
