Ponchatoula drills Thibodaux to reach girls basketball quarterfinals

It is familiar territory for Ponchatoula.

The fifth-seeded Green Wave are accustomed to going deep into the LHSAA girls playoffs.

This year is no exception.

Libby Thompson and Alyssa Hillard each scored 18 points to pace Ponchatoula to an easy 68-33 homevictory Monday evebning over No. 12 Thibodaux. Thompson added six rebounds and three blocks while Hillard had four assists.

Ponchatoula took control early, jumping out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and blowing it open in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 26-8 to take a commanding 44-13 halftime lead. It was 58-24 going to the final period.

Taylor Jackson and Lilliana Bush each added 12 points for Ponchatoula.

Zariell Pollad had eight points to lead Thibodaux (20-11).

Ponchatoula (24-8) advances to the quarterfinals to play at No. 4 Zachary. The Broncos whipped No. 13 Destrehan 80-57.
