No-hitter for Cretin Townsend Homes, wins for playoff hopefuls highlight Monday in CCS Prep League

The top teams in the Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League looked the part Monday with one doing so in stellar fashion.

St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes got a combined no hitter from Brandon Kragle and Jackson Monica in an 8-0 victory at Ascension Catholic-based State Farm. It was the third straight win for the Comets.

Kragle pitched three and two-third innings, overcoming five walks with six strikeouts to get the victory. Monica relieved and pitched three and a third perfect innings with three strikeouts with the save.

Cretin Townsend Homes (9-3-1) scored a run in the top of the first inning, added two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings and scored a run in the fifth.

Brayden Bertucci paced the offense for the Comets, going 3 for 3 with two RBI. Brady Clement had a hit and an RBI while Hudson Heltz and Monica each added an RBI. Ian Arnett produced a pair of hits.

“All summer, we’ve been able to divide games up on the mound with guys who didn’t get many innings during prep,” Cretin Townsend Homes coach Wayne Stein said. “Both guys today did a good job and are earning spots. We swung the bats well and our kids are playing hard. They want to be out there every day.”

First-place Jesuit-based Retif Oil edged Archbishop Shaw-based Refuel 1-0 at John Ryan Stadium.

In a pitcher’s dual from start to finish, Retif Oil got its lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI by Hunter Oufnac. E. Denny had two hits for the Oilers.

Gates Barre’ was terrific on the mound for Retif Oil, pitching a complete game four-hitter. Barre’ walked just one and struck out four, using just 77 pitches, 56 of which were strikes.

It was the sixth straight league win and the seventh straight win overall for Retif Oil (10-1).

Nate Billiot started and took the loss for Refuel (3-9), going five and two-third innings, allowing just one run on seven hits. Billiot walked three and struck out two. Julyan Clarks finished up on the mound for the Eagles, who were held to four singles.

Archbishop Rummel-based Malcolm Dienes kept pace, remaining hot with its seventh straight win with a 10-0 win over Chalmette-based Gulf Coast Bank & Trust in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule at Raider Park.

The Raiders (8-1-1) banged out 10 hits, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, three runs in the third, four in the fourth and finished it with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Shane Hirstius belted a three-run home run while Casey Avrard and Rhett Centanni each had two hits and two RBI for Malcolm Dienes. Evan Burg added a double and two RBI while Anthony Mouney had an RBI double.

Mason Scholl pitched a shutout, allowing just two hits. Scholl walked two and struck out six, using 73 pitches.

The John Curtis Christian-based River Ridge Patriots remained in prime playoff contention with a convincing 10-0 victory at Northshore-based Peck’s Seafood at Ned Eades Field.

The Patriots broke open a close game late.

River Ridge (8-2-1) scored a run in the second inning before adding single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to lead 3-0. The Patriots scored twice in the sixth and finished it off with five runs in the seventh inning.

Alex Lagasse pitched five shutout innings to get the win. Lagasse allowed no runs on five hits. Lagasse walked one and struck out six. Andrew Martinez followed with two scoreless frames, allowing two hits.

Syris McClinton had a hit and two RBI while Cameron Romano added two RBI for the Patriots. Reed Duthu had two hits and an RBI and Juan Washington had a hit and an RBI. Lagasse, Martinez and Dagan Bruno each added an RBI.

Hayden Wingrave went 3 for 3 for Peck’s Seafood. Noah Lasseigne started and pitched well but took the loss, going three innings, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits. Lasseigne walked three and struck out five. Joshua Matt relieved and pitched two innings, followed by Brandon Sintes, Anthony Tamborella and Brody Dukes.

The loss was the fifth straight for Peck’s Seafood (6-7).

Hahnville kept pace, rallying past Lakeshore-based Mortgage Gumbo 6-2 in Boutte.

It was the fifth straight win for Hahnville (7-3-1).
