Newman, Riverdale and Rummel boys; Northshore girls among soccer winners Thursday

Area Prep Soccer Report for Friday, Jan. 26

Newman captured the boys District 8-IV championship Thursday with a convincing 4-1 win over Country Day at Lupin Field.

The Greenies fell behind 1-0 on a goal by Noah Kaplan for the Cajuns in the first half before Newman scored four unanswered goals.

Alex Dulitz, Bryce Batten, George Villere and Rylan Claverie each scored a goal for Newman while Batten added an assist.

Newman (12-5-2, 6-0), fifth in the Division IV power ratings, won its third straight match. The Greenies face a huge power points game Saturday at defending state champion The Willow School at 11 a.m. The Lions (17-0-4) are unbeaten and ranked No. 1 in the Division III power ratings.

Country Day (10-9, 5-1), 15th in the Division IV power ratings, also faces a huge test and power points game Saturday at 2 p.m. against Jesuit at 2 p.m. The Blue Jays are No. 1 in the Division I power ratings.

Riverdale handled Karr 8-0 in District 7-II play.

Arandy DeLeon had a hat trick for the Rebels while Ian Casas scored a pair of goals. Jose Rodrizuez, Anthony Ortiz and Aex Xiloj each added a goal.

Riverdale (11-3-2, 4-0-1) plays East Jefferson Monday in its regular season finale.

Archbishop Rummel bounced back from a loss to Jesuit with an 8-0 win over Higgins in a District 7-II match on the West Bank.

Trey LeJeune recorded a hat trick for the Raiders, Kade Knobloch had two goals while Colin Grenier, Brody Mitchell and Rob Montalvo-Vargas each scored a goal.

Rummel (18-5-3, 4-0-1), seventh in the Division II power ratings, will host Belle Chasse in district play Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Hurricanes (4-13-2, 0-5-1) will conclude its season at home Monday against Patrick Taylor.

In girls action, Northshore blanked Slidell 4-0 at home as Olivia Roy scored a pair of goals, one in each half.

Northshore led 2-0 at halftime on the goal by Roy and a goal by Mackenzie Green. Kendall Drezins and Roy each added a goal in the second half.

Northshore (6-11-1, 4-2) will entertain St. Scholastica next Monday in its regular season finale.

Slidell (8-9-2, 2-5) will host Terrebonne Monday in its regular season finale.
