Nate SheppardMandeville junior running back Nate Sheppard has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Crescent City Sports, NASH ICON 106.1 FM and Friday Night Football Prep Player of the Week for week 11 of the prep football season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

Sheppard rushed 25 times for 328 yards and three touchdowns as No. 21 Mandeville scored a 50-36 Non-Select Division I road bi-district playoff win at No. 12 Sam Houston.

“Nate is a dynamic player, a great running back, but he’s just a great football player,” Mandeville coach Craig Jones said. “He’s also played on defense, blocked a punt and impacted games in so many ways. The weather conditions dictated us running it at Sam Houston. He is rarely brought down by the first tackler. He is explosive. We fortunate to have him on our team.”

The next meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club is Tuesday, November 14 at noon, featuring New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha, along with Saints Hall of Fame inductee and former LSU star Devery Henderson, Tulane coach Willie Fritz, Destrehan coach Marcus Scott and St. Charles Catholic.

The year-end awards luncheon, honoring all prep players of the week, along with the team of the year, coach of the year and player of the year is Tuesday, Dec. 12 at noon at The Cannery.

The second annual Baseball Bash, featuring LSU coach Jay Johnson, among all other local college and junior college head coaches, is set for Monday, Jan. 22 at noon at The Cannery.
