LCA, Episcopal take state outdoor track and field titles

Lafayette Christian and Episcopal claimed Class 2A state titles in the LHSAA outdoor track and field championships at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU on Friday.

The Knights scored 68 points to take the boys team championship with Episcopal second. Kentwood was fifth.

Lafayette Christian won a pair of relay races and Devin Walton of the Knights won the 100 meter dash while Micah Miller took first in the shot put. Jermaine Brown of Kentwood took first in the 200 meter dash.

Episcopal won the girls state championship with 111 points with Holy Savior Menard finished second with 76 points. Newman was third with St. Thomas Aquinas finishing fourth.

Daila Young of the Knights won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Episcopal also won the 4×400 relay.

Breanna Becerra of St. Thomas Aquinas won the 400 and 800 meter runs. Ava Hartman of Newman won at 3,200 meters.

Amite basketball superstar Jalencia Pierre showed her immense athletic ability, winning both the long jump and triple jump.
