Baseball Playoffs: Lutcher advances, Doyle wins, DLS eliminated Friday
In the Class 3A baseball quarterfinals Friday, No. 3 Lutcher earned their spot in the state the semifinals with a 7-0 win over No. 6 Iowa to complete a two-game sweep.
Noah Detillier pitched six shutout innings to pick up the win for Lutcher, allowing just four hits. Marshall Louque, who pitched a shutout in game one, had a two-run single
The Bulldogs (30-9) will face the winner of No. 2 Iota and No. 7 Erath in the semifinals.
In 2A, No. 11 Doyle whipped No. 19 D’Arbonne Woods 10-1 in game one of their best-of-three series.
Peyton Woods got the win, striking out two. Woods helped himself with a home run in the first inning. Caiden Barcia added an RBI single for Doyle (21-14).
It was a close game, 3-1, going to the fifth inning when the Tigers scored six runs to break it open, highlighted by two-RBI hits by Luke LeBourgeois and Dru Beatty.
Game two is slated for noon today with game three, if necessary, to follow.
In a Division I rematch of last year’s state championship game, No. 4 Byrd took game one over defending state champion and fourth seed Jesuit, winning 6-3 in Shreveport.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on Jesuit from the start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Lake Lambert, Brooks Brossette and Christian Weddleton.
Byrd increased the lead to 6-0 with three runs in the third inning.
Zach Wilburn had an RBI single, Dakota Futch followed with an infield single, scoring a run to make it 5-0 and Connor Pierce singled home another run and it was 6-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, Holden Hess walked, William Good singled and James Bendeck got Jesuit on the board with an RBI single to make it 6-1. Bronson Goebel then belted a two-run double to cut the deficit to 6-3 but that was all the Blue Jays could muster.
Patrick Snead picked up the win.
Ryan Porche, who defeated the Yellow Jackets in the 2021 state championship game, took the loss.
Game two is today at 11 a.m. with game three, if necessary, to follow.
Also in Division I, No. 3 John Curtis Christian evened its series with No. 6 Archbishop Rummel, winning 4-2 at Mike Miley Stadium in a game aired live on CrescentCitySports.com.

In Division II, No. 2 seed St. Louis Catholic completed a two-game sweep of No. 10 De La Salle, winning 14-8 in Lake Charles.
Reid Snider had two hits and three RBI for the Saints.
St. Louis Catholic will face the winner of No. 3 Vandebilt Catholic and No. 11 St. Michael in the semifinals. The Terriers have a one game to none lead in that series.
