HCU’s Stanfill headlines Southland Volleyball All-Academic team
FRISCO, Texas – Alison Stanfill of HCU was named the 2023 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year, as the annual All-Academic Team was announced Thursday.
Stanfill carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average while majoring in history. She and partner Maddie Butters were the Southland Pair of the Year in 2023, and tied for third-most wins in a season. She moved into fourth in program history with 56 career wins
Boise State led the way with four honorees, while HCU, New Orleans, and conference champion A&M-Corpus Christi each had two picks. First team all-conference players who met the academic qualifications are automatically selected to the team.
The all-academic team is voted on by a head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA and completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
